Viñuela Sew & Sews

Each block has been made using  the fused raw-edge appliqué method, where the flower appliqué pieces are fused to the block background and then hand and/or machine appliquéd to the background.  Some blocks have been further embellished with beads and ribbon, giving each flower an individual look.  Most of the group members have taken part in this process.  The blocks will then be pieced together with a coordinating sashing by Kim and then will be sandwiched together into the final quilt.  More members will then spend time hand quilting the project during our weekly group meetings.

The blocks for this quilt have been especially designed for us by Helen, one of our members, whose specialty is designing and creating fine hand embroideries.

The finished quilt will measure approximately  250cm x 200cm and has been produced by the ladies of the Viñuela Sew and Sews. The quilt will be raffled off during their "Open Weekend" which will be held at the community room next to the Post Office in La Viñuela on the 25th and 26th of October 2008. Entry to the room is via the brown, metal doors just to the south of the Post Office entrance. The event will run between 12.00 noon & 6.00 pm on Saturday 25th October and between 12.00 noon and 5.00 pm on Sunday 26th October. And, best of all, admission is free!

All proceeds from the raffle will go to a charity nominated by the Mayor of La Viñuela. The Mayor will present the quilt to the winner at the Town Hall on the following Tuesday.
