October 2008:On the weekend of he 25th and 26th October 2008, the ladies of the Viñuela Sew & Sews held their first, but by the sound of things definitely not their last, exhibition of works. The exhibition included examples of work which members of the group had undertaken and included a special quilt which was raffled off. All proceeds from the raffle were to be donated to local charity. The exhibition took place in the groups normal meeting spot - the council owned rooms at the side of the Correos in La Viñuela. The ladies were not sure what to expect in the way of turnout but were encouraged by the number of raffle tickets which had been sold in advance. The following is from Rachel, the main organiser of the event: "After lots and lots of preparation and planning the show was amazing. Frank helped enormously by planning the layout on his CAD software, so we knew what (and who) fitted where. After the frenzied activity on the morning of the show, magically the room looked stunning at exactly noon - ready for visitors! I was so proud of everyone. We had 70 visitors on the Saturday and 80 on the Sunday!!! I would have been happy with half of that number over the weekend. It was beyond my wildest dreams!! I had chats with two other patchwork teachers who sought me out to chat about what we do, they were very, very enthusiastic about the whole show and couldn't believe the diversity of crafts that we had on display. Even the two ladies from the shop in Mar de Plata in Torre del Mar were astounded by the talent on display. They are keen to collaborate with me on designs and ideas. We had a few Spanish visitors, but most were English together with a few of my German neighbours. We now have a waiting list of 11 ladies "desperately" wanting to join us. We raised more than we dreamed of for charity - 500 Euros will go to the childrens charity Anne-Axarquia based in Velez-Malaga, and the rest will probably go to another childrens charity in Malaga. I would like to thank everyone who donated. At the end of the day the charity quilt was won by John Munns who lives in Puente Don Manuel." Rachel.
